Hammering, sanding, stamping, joining metals – that’s how I spent last Sunday at YaYa Beads in Augusta, getting my first taste of metalworking. YaYa Beads’ owner, Lesley, a terrifically talented jewelry designer and teacher, profiled the cold connections workshop on her Sweet Freedom blog. Here’s my first pendant.
I had to leave the pendant behind in the tumbler, and when it arrived in yesterday’s mail, I couldn’t have been more excited if the envelope had been from Tiffany’s! Oh, the possibilities! This is a skill I am definitely going to pursue in the new year!
A fabulous pendant!!! This workshop looked like so much fun. I've been looking for a similar workshop in my area because I want to learn about cold connections.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is fun and the necklace turned out really cute. You should see my list, Santa is not going to know where to start ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat job and a very cool pendant. Hope you know this opens a WHOLE can of worms...tools, tool, tools! But hey, it's so much fun. These days I go to bed thinking about it.. and my tool collection is seriously growing! In saying that, you can adapt and use a lot of stuff that may already be in the work shed... but some you just HAVe to get!! Christmas?

You did a fantastic job! So glad you enjoyed the class, and I can't wait to see your metal creations!
ReplyDeleteThis is so much more wearable and awesome than anything at Tiffany's :-D
ReplyDeleteGorgeous I love this piece. I hope Santa brings you lots of the tools you are wanting, you have a real knack for working with metal.
ReplyDeleteI am so envious I have been wanting to learn some metal work, but no one around here teaches it. Augusta is that the one in GA? If so that is not so far away. I might just have to go and check out Ya Ya Beads and meet Lesley in person.

Therese, it is Augusta, GA. It's about a 3 hour drive for me, but always worth the trip! Lesley's shop is amazing! (And I think she's going to be scheduling a 2-day mini-metal workshop early in the new year.)
ReplyDeleteI love copper and the design of your first pendant is great! I'm so envious of your workshop possibilities. I had no idea you could tumble copper - presumably that's a way of burnishing the metal. I'm going to have to do some googling!
