Catching Up...

We have some catching up to do! In the two months I’ve been away from this space, I have been beading…

Finished this summer, and now my favorite Fall necklace. Herringbone strands in
22K gold, palladium and metallic bronze. Sliding focal is adapted from Mikki Ferrugiaro's
Chrysanthemid 2 tutorial.

and applying to fall shows…and learning new things like riveting and sawing and twining.

Last month, I spent five magical days at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, in the Tennessee mountains, diving into the art of enameling on metal with Mary Hettmansperger. (I know! Can you imagine getting to spend a week with Mary?)

Mary Hettmansberger, demonstrating a technique to our class. Studio hours were 8am-1am, and
rarely did we hike back up the hill toward our lodges before midnight!
I brought home a ton of techniques and am just beginning to explore ways to incorporate them into my beadwork.

And now, it’s time to catch up with what you’ve been doing. I’m using the rest of this week to check up on everyone’s blog. I want to find out what you’ve fallen in love with over the summer!

  1. That necklace is sensational! The ropes and the focal are just perfect! People must ask to touch it each time you wear it.
You must be having so much fun working on all the techniques you learned in class! Cannot wait to see the results :-)

  2. Herringbone always looks rich and those colors certainly reinforce that. I am looking forward to seeing your new techniques.

  3. wow - what a statement piece! I bet it looks fantastic on! can't wait to see some of your new techniques .... looking forward to hearing / and seeing all about it!

  4. Beautiful colors in that wonderful lariat! You do have a great eye for color. I am jealous about your class. It sounds wonderful. Can't wait to see some of the creations it inspired. I am also venturing down the metalwork path but it's amazing how many additional tools you need just to get started.

  5. Beautiful lariat! I'd love to do a week long retreat, it must have been great

  6. Beautiful lariat! I'd love to do a week long retreat, it must have been great

  7. Wow Karin! I'm in LOVE with this necklace!!! The triple rope is a perfect accent to the focal! Great job. I am really enjoying the class photo too! :)

  8. Oh, my stars, that necklace is fabulous! I love the slinky texture that tubular herringbone can take on, and this is a grand combination of colors. And that centerpiece/slider? I just fell over...

Can't wait to see all the wonders your new techniques add to your work as you process them into your creations!
